Soundgarden
"Burden In My Hand"
From: Superunknown (1994)
Mr. Chris Cornell. Once in a lifetime musician. Chris was one of the founding members of Soundgarden, Seattle WA, US, mid-80’s. He struggled with alcoholism, drug addiction & serious depression. In the end, he chose to check out. There is still no universal agreement on exactly what led Chris to do what he did that night. Many details are agreed upon, but there are lingering questions that remain.
In any event, Chris was one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard. As unique & talented as Layne Staley, also a friend of Chris’s from Seattle, who also exited this world far too soon.
This tune addresses, albeit somewhat obliquely, Chris’s struggles with alcoholism. I think it showcases his vocal talents quite well, (to say nothing of his songwriting). For those who’ve not heard him before, I hope you’ll appreciate him.

"Are You Ready For The Country?"

This one is for my dear friend Matthias. He's a sax player and when I found that out, this tune immediately popped into mind. I've got a very long history with this band. They've been a huge part of my life for many years. We'll get into more of that a little later on. Many very interesting and entertaining tales...
This tune was written by the great Mr. Neil Young many years ago. This version was played at a show in my home State but unfortunately I wasn't able to catch it. I don't know who the hell this guy is who's playing saxophone but I sure as hell wish I did. I was blown away when I first heard this. One of the baddest sax pieces that I've ever heard is in the middle of this tune. I hope you dig it as much as I do. Listen & love, folks.

"Held Your Tongue"

This guy is just a force. He's of my favorite guitarists of all time and that's saying something, trust and believe. Most of his stuff is quite heavy. He was one of the founding members of Alice In Chains back around 1989. What an incredible band. Along with Soundgarden and Nirvana, AiC was part of the foundation of Grunge. If you're not familiar with them, do yourelf a huge musical favor and check 'em out. If you're into that style of music you won't be sorry.
Anyway, Jerry has done absolutely amazing solo work and his most recent record, "I Want Blood", which dropped late last year, isn't the most accessible record but after three or four all-the-way-through listens I came to the conclusion that it's, once again, a work of genius.
Jerry has a musical/guitar-material style of writing that's like no one else's who's ever played. He uses intervals in both his playing and his vocal work that produce a sound like no one else. Metallica's James Hetfield said, that "Jerry's just got this thing, this way of writing and playing that... he's just got this Jerry Sauce that's completely unique and instantly recognizable". That signature sound is in full effect on this tune, which is one of my favorite tracks on the record. I truly hope you dig it.

Ok, this seems like a decent place to start. As good any other, better than some. When brothers Chris & Rich Robinson finally disbanded The Black Crowes in 2015, after 25 years, each of them moved forward with other projects.
Rich Robinson formed “The Magpie Salute” with guitarist Marc Ford & bassist Sven Pipien, both of whom had played with Rich in the Crowes. Soul, blues, funk, southern rock n’ roll. Good for the soul. Fortunately, in this particular clip, lyrics are included. Enjoy!! (Or complain to me. Either is great!)

Maiden Voyage
Good music has healed & soothed my soul over the course of my entire life. It figures very heavily into my spiritual life as well.
My goal here is to offer everyone something that might light your fire, brighten your day, excite the hell out of you, help to dry a tear, or maybe help in bringing a couple of them out.
I believe that this stuff heals. Let’s see if we can get this to spark something.
